When you start to put a puzzle together, do you start with the outside pieces or focus on a certain colour grouping on the interior? Either way you start with a plan, you know the end goal of completion and you know what needs to be done piece by piece. From the project conception to completion, there are many steps than need to fall exactly in place for the final result to work. This involves several stages, such as estimating, scheduling, design and production, , proofing, editing, press approvals and shipping and can take organizing to the extreme.

Professional criticism is something almost everybody has to deal with. How it is dealt with however, depends on the individual. Many people associate criticism with negativity and many seem to struggle with "not taking it personally". As a designer, you face criticism with every piece you design and it is important to learn early on how to accept it and how to go about dealing with it.

So I did some travelling to the US of A this weekend and on my plane ride home, I sat beside a busy executive businesswoman, complete with a Venti coffee from Starbucks, some tired looking hair and a stack of about 100 resumes. Over the course of our 40-minute flight I saw this woman speed through each resume, giving each one an initial glance – she spent less than 15 seconds on the front page after which, she’d brand them with a big NO or YES in the top right corner, often not reading the pages that follow.
